8 Small Landscaping & Snow Removal Businesses Killing it on Social Media
It’s easy to spend a lot of time and effort on social media and see nothing in return if you’re not using it strategically. However, smart use of social media can pay off dramatically. Of course using social media alone won’t change your business overnight, but with some consistent work and a little creativity, you can win with social.
Your landscaping and snow removal customers are on social media all you need to do is find them, or better yet let them find you by being remarkable. Below are eight small to mid-sized landscaping and snow removal companies that I think do a good job on social media.
Ryan’s Landscaping (Hanover, PA) - Active on all channels - Ryan is one of the best I’ve seen at self-promoting. With an awesome, visually stunning website that showcases the companies fantastic landscaping work and a slew of social media accounts doing exactly the same thing. Ryan has managed to be very successful using social media. Ryan is active on all social media channels besides LinkedIn, which makes sense because they focus more on residential clients. His most popular outlet is Instagram with over 14k followers.

Snowmen Show (Crystal Lake, IL) – The Snow Men are great examples social influencers in the snow removal industry. With just over 8k followers on Instagram and just under 2000 YouTube subscribers they have a strong following and for good reason. The team’s leader Ryan always gives little tips and tricks for plowers in his videos. I really like their videos because they are always taken from interesting angles and their editing of those videos is flawless. If you have a Boss or Western, plow and you’re on Instagram they’ll find you.

Tovar (Chicago DMA) – Tovar Snow Professionals are quite possibly the largest company on this list; however, I like their social media because they communicate like a smaller company. I mean these people have some big accounts like UPS, Comcast, Kraft, and even the FBI. As you would imagine with big commercial clients they service, their major channel is LinkedIn and they do quite well on the platform even in summer. Tovar’s social media is a good example of using a mix of custom content, curated content, and plain old relatability.

Chant Singvangsn (Jackson, MN) - Chant Singvangsn is active on several social media channels and is a real hustler. Not only does he do snow removal and landscaping. He owns a laundromat, is a photographer, graphic designer, and does some guest blogging. His YouTube series Daily Hustle is authentic and gives you a real glimpse into his company’s operations. His other social media channels are filled with custom designed pictures that are always awesome. Chant even has some Daily Hustle gear available for his fans.

Dirt Monkey (Newport, MN) – Stanley “Dirt Monkey” is active on all major social media channels, but where he excels is YouTube and Instagram. His informational YouTube videos are a must watch for anyone in the snow removal or landscaping industry. Dirt Monkey does equipment reviews, tool reviews, Interviews with Experts in the Industry and even has his own University. The reason I like Dirt Monkey so much is he doesn’t just hoard information; he gives some away free which builds trust with his audience.

Sean Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) – Sean’s major platforms are Twitter and his blog (seanadamsinc.com) Sean is the silent, but deadly kind of social media ninja. You won’t see many flashy designs or tons of videos, however with just under 11k Twitter followers and a strong email list Sean is still making waves. Sean started his first lawn and landscape business in 1989 with no money, a borrowed station wagon, and a used lawn mower. Since then, Sean has owned operated and sold two full-service lawn and landscape companies and currently owns his third lawn and landscape company that services over 2,500 clients. Sean is the former owner of LawnSite.com and PlowSite.com, which he sold in 2006 and managed until 2012.

Brian Ring - Active on all channels (Stillwater, MN) – Brian is really good at connecting with his followers and even better at networking. Brian is active on major social media channels even Snapchat! What really stands out about Brian is the love for what he does. When you’re watching his videos, you quickly see that he takes pride in his job, but also doesn’t take himself too seriously. Another awesome thing about Brian is that he’s always willing to help a fellow landscaper or plower if they have questions.

Gary Vee(New York, NY) – Okay so I tricked you a little bit because this last person is definitely not in the snow removal or landscaping business, but if he decides to I am sure he would be successful. Gary Vaynerchuk or Gary Vee for short is one of the world's leading marketing experts; he built his career by being ahead of the curve on social media. Just out of college, Gary grew his family wine business from a $4M to a $45M business in just five years. Now, he runs VaynerMedia, one of the world's hottest digital agencies. The reason I really like Gary Vee is his work ethic and hustle. He is super rich and could stop being active on social media, but he understands that giving more people access into his world only strengthens his brand. Similar to Dirt Monkey, Gary is very active on YouTube and has a weekly show called, you guessed it, the Gary Vee show. One of his best quotes is “Ideas are sh*t, execution is the game.”
